DOG FRIENDLY “IN A LANDSCAPE” CONCERT at SMITH ROCK STATE PARK

Destination, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™️ evening concert at Smith Rock State Park in Central Oregon late July, 2021!  FLYNN DOG’s first concert!

The Map below shows our route taking the I-5 South from Lake Oswego, OR to the Santiam Pass/Hwy 22, across to SUTTLE LAKE, then to our VRBO lodging in BEND, with visits to PETERSEN ROCK GARDEN, CLINE FALLS, TUMALO STATE PARK, IN A LANDSCAPE CONCERT at SMITH ROCK STATE PARK, and BALANCING ROCKS on the METOLIUS during our 3-day stay, before Heading over MT HOOD and home.

DAY 1 – TUESDAY, LAKE OSWEGO, SUTTLE LAKE, VRBO IN BEND

We set out for our Summer PAWTRIP to Central Oregon on a Warm, Sunny Tuesday morning in late JULY, taking the I-5 South to the Santiam Pass/Hwy 22 and across to  SUTTLE LAKE and SUTTLE LAKE LODGE, where we stop for lunch at the BOATHOUSE, and Hike around the Lake.

NO PASS OR FEE REQUIRED AT THE LODGE

Did someone say Lunch?  Guess what?  The BOATHOUSE RESTAURANT located on Suttle Lake behind the Lodge is DOG FRIENDLY inside and out!

(Note: This restaurant is open seasonally, during the Summer Months, for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.)

Time to work off our lunch, so ”HERE WE GO LOOPTY LOO...” hiking 3.6 miles counterclockwise around SUTTLE LAKE (SUTTLE LAKE LOOP HIKE.)

Then on to Our Deluxe 4-bedroom, 5-bath VRBO on O.B. Riley Road in Bend, OR above Tumalo State Park, also known as our  “HOME SWEET HOME” for the next 2-nights.

DAY 2 – WEDNESDAY, PETERSEN  ROCK GARDEN, CLINE FALLS, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild Concert at SMITH ROCK STATE PARK

Hi Ho, it’s off to the Impressive DOG-FRIENDLY PETERSEN ROCK GARDEN, we go!,” where Grasses Grow Tall, Peacocks Roam Free, Water Lilies Grow with Wild Abandon, and Intricate Miniatures of Monuments, Churches, Buildings, Castles and Bridges Built of rocks and shells Capture the Imagination.

Then we’re Back on the road, driving to  CLINE FALLS STATE SCENIC VIEWPOINT  !

From the Parking area we walk for 1.2-miles RT along the Deschutes River, to the picturesque segmented 20′ Cascading CLINE FALLS. (CLINE FALLS HIKE) and back.

NO FEE OR PERMIT REQUIRED

Then, back to the House!

Tonight, we are  “IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild” at SMITH ROCK STATE PARK BOUND!

Concert starts at 6:00 p.m.  Advance Ticket Purchase Required. Ticket includes the use of a headset allowing us to listen to the concert as we move about in this Wild and Scenic Landscape.

To Quote In A Landscape:  “Our founding mission is to make the arts accessible  by presenting free and low-cost concerts in America’s most democratic spaces:  our public lands.”  (Note:  With this year’s In A Landscape “Good Neighbor Program” over 3,000 people attended a concert for Free)  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Plus, OREGON STATE PARK PASS OR FEE REQUIRED. Available for purchase with credit card at the Kiosk.

It is an INTOXICATING evening, listening to HUNTER NOAK perform Liszt, Debussy, Schubert, Ravel, Satie, and Chopin, with a special performance by guest artist, James Greeley, Native American Award-winning flutist, as we sit on our picnic blanket, and walk the 1-mile RIM TRAIL, the fragrance of desert sage in the air, surrounded by the Beauty of SMITH ROCK STATE PARK.

DAY 3 – THURSDAY, TUMALO STATE PARK DESCHUTES RIVER TRAIL, METOLIUS BALANCING ROCKS, HOME

Departure Day!

Before heading out of town, we decide to stop at nearby TUMALO STATE PARK and hike this section of the DESCHUTES RIVER TRAIL.

OREGON STATE PARK PASS OR FEE REQUIRED.  Available for purchase with credit card at Kiosk.

How lucky are we, It’s another Beautiful day, Warm with a Gentle Breeze, and perfect for this  2.6 mile RT hike along the Deschutes River.

The trail begins at Tumalo State Park and follows the river through Pines, lava rock, and across a metal boardwalk, that winds it’s way through a boulder field, before re-connecting with the trail beyond.

Then we head Up and out to the 26, and over to Cove Palisades State Park, where we drive across Lake Billy Chinook, then Up Out of the canyon, Past SHIP ROCK, and follow the paved road until it turns to gravel, around a bend, and there on the right is the turnout and trailhead for the METOLIUS BALANCING ROCKS.
